Despite bring home to the Electric Picnic, Co Laois often gets overlooked as a destination, which is a shame because it's home to some gorgeous scenery and sites of real historic interest.

The Rock of Dunamaise on the outskirts of Portlaoise, is the ruin of a 12th century castle that is not only stunning to look at but is a great setting for kids to runs about in.

Laois is also brimming with gorgeous spots for nature walks or hikes. Kenmore Woods provides stunning forest trails while the Slieve Bloom mountains and Masslough are breathtaking.
